We would like to note that we only sell place cards at the ticket office. However tickets bought from our online shop are available for pick-up on request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that the ticket office will be closed on the day of the ball (Thursday, January 28, 2027). There will be a ticket counter in the Hofburg from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to collect tickets that have already been paid for and reserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Please travel to the event using public transportation! Using public transport is a CO\u2082-saving and comfortable way to reach the event location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public Transport<\/strong>
The Vienna Hofburg<\/a> is located in the center of the city and therefore at the heart of the public transport system. The U3 underground station Herrengasse is about a 5-minute walk from the Hofburg. Bus and tram stops along the Burgring are also just a few steps away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For planning your route, you can also use the VOR Routenplaner<\/a> or Google Maps<\/a>.

Car<\/strong>
If you depend on traveling by car, we recommend using the Park & Ride facilities on the outskirts of the city. Please note that the entire city of Vienna is a short-term parking zone until 10:00 p.m. You can find an overview of Park & Ride garages here<\/a>. 
Access by car is via the Burgring and Heldenplatz. In all likelihood, we will be able to provide you with parking directly in front of the Hofburg again this year. In case of doubt, you can park in the surrounding streets or underground garages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TU Orchestra, the TU Choir and members of the Akademische Bl\u00e4serphilharmonie Wien (ABW) will perform the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The TU Ball<\/strong> is one of the oldest ball events still in existence in Vienna. Its beginnings go back to the Techniker-Kraenzchen, which were held regularly from the founding of the Polytechnic Institute in 1815 (today’s TU Vienna). It is known and loved for its youthful flair and the imaginative and practical ball souvenirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brothers Johann and Joseph Strauss<\/strong>, who studied at the Polytechnic Institute before embarking on their international careers as musicians, dedicated a long series of waltzes and polkas to the \u201cgentlemen students of technology\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then and now<\/strong>, your ball enjoyment serves a good cause. The TU Ball supports the HTU Studien-Erfolgs-Hilfe, that provides support for students in need and the “Lese und MINT F\u00f6rderung”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last Thursday in January<\/strong> is traditionally the day on which the TU Ball takes place in the Vienna Hofburg<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music program<\/strong> ranges from classical waltz music and big band sounds through to New Orleans jazz and Latin American rhythms. Unique among Viennese balls is the folk music in the Geheime Ratstube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grand Opening Ceremony<\/strong> is organised with a lot of care. Under the direction of Mrs. Ingeborg Knopf-Bousa, there is a successful mixture of traditional procedure, new ideas and thoughtful choreography for the opening committee to the sounds of the TU orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After ball breakfast …<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
