The Mensapickerl is a subsidy from the HTU Wien for student catering. The support is provided through subsidies for the costs of cold and warm main courses and menus. Show the imprint on your student ID at the cash register in the restaurant and receive a discount.
How can I submit the application?
You can submit the application in person at the HTU Secretariat or online.
Who is entitled to it?
This funding is aimed at students who are socially in need of support. At least one of the following statements should apply to you. The statements refer to the current semester.
- I receive a study grant, a study grant for self-support (Selbsterhalterstipendium) or study support from the state.
- I receive BAföG or am in a mobility program (e.g. Erasmus).
- I receive funds from an ÖH social fund or the Studien-Erfolgs-Hilfe of the HTU Wien and TU Wien.
- I receive minimum income, unemployment benefits, compensatory allowance, orphan’s pension or half-orphan’s pension.
- I receive exemption from prescription fees, ORF fees or housing allowance.
- I have childcare obligations, am pregnant, will become a parent or care for relatives.
- I have a disability or chronic illness.
- I have less than 1,661 euros net per month (poverty risk threshold in 2025) available, including maintenance from parents or costs covered by third parties. Example of costs covered: your parents pay your rent.
In which restaurants can I eat at a discount?
It applies to companies of the Österreichische Mensen- Betriebsgesellschaft m.b.H. and selected partner companies.

How high is the subsidy?
The subsidy per main course and menu is 2.00 euros and can be claimed once a day.
When can I submit the application?
The Mensapickerl is available from the beginning of October (for the winter semester) and from the beginning of March (for the summer semester).
How long is the Mensapickerl valid?
The imprint is valid in the winter semester between October 1 and January 31 and in the summer semester from March 1 to June 30.
What do I have to do?
Follow the instructions.
Step 1: Fill out the form in the HTU Secretariat or online.
Step 2: If you have filled out the form online, you will receive a confirmation by email. If you were in the HTU Secretariat, you can immediately proceed to step 3.
Step 3: Insert your student ID into a TUcard Kiosk. This will give you the imprint (“MW” in the winter semester or “MS” in the summer semester) on the back of your card.

Step 4: Register for the discount at the Mensa at the cash register (Mon-Fri from 9-11 am).
What else is important?
