TU Ball 2026 – Ball of the TU Wien

it is with great pleasure that we invite you to take part in the TU Ball, the ball of TU Wien, to be held at the Hofburg Vienna. With your attendence, our ball becomes an imperial rendezvous of science and technology. Let’s celebrate until the early hours.

Dress Code (Gender Neutral)	Long evening gown, tailcoat (white bow tie), tuxedo or black suit with black bow tie (no tie!) The ball committee reserves the right to refuse entry to persons who do not comply with the dress code.

Tickets

You can buy your ball tickets (admission incl. checkroom) and table places online from the beginning of November 2025 to January 9, 2026 via our online reservation system.

Tickets for TU Wien staff and discounted tickets (e.g. for alumni) can only be purchased at our ticket office.

We would like to point out that no refunds are possible for tickets.

You also have the option of buying ball tickets at our ticket office or picking up tickets reserved online.

Please note that the ticket office will be closed on the day of the ball (Thursday, January 29, 2026). There will be a ticket counter in the Hofburg from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to collect tickets that have already been paid for and reserved.

Access

Public Transport
The Vienna Hofburg is located in the center of the city and therefore at the heart of the public transport system. The U3 underground station Herrengasse is about a 5-minute walk from the Hofburg. Bus and tram stops along the Burgring are also just a few steps away.

Car
Access by car is via the Burgring and Heldenplatz. In all likelihood, we will be able to provide you with parking directly in front of the Hofburg again this year. In case of doubt, you can park in the surrounding streets or underground garages.

The TU Orchestra, the TU Choir and members of the Akademische Bläserphilharmonie Wien (ABW) will perform the opening ceremony.

History

The TU Ball is one of the oldest ball events still in existence in Vienna. Its beginnings go back to the Techniker-Kraenzchen, which were held regularly from the founding of the Polytechnic Institute in 1815 (today’s TU Vienna). It is known and loved for its youthful flair and the imaginative and practical ball souvenirs.

The brothers Johann and Joseph Strauss, who studied at the Polytechnic Institute before embarking on their international careers as musicians, dedicated a long series of waltzes and polkas to the “gentlemen students of technology”.

Then and now, your ball enjoyment serves a good cause. The TU Ball supports the HTU Children’s Fund, that provides support for students with children.

The last Thursday in January is traditionally the day on which the TU Ball takes place in the Vienna Hofburg.

The music program ranges from classical waltz music and big band sounds through to New Orleans jazz and Latin American rhythms. Unique among Viennese balls is the folk music in the Geheime Ratstube.

The Grand Opening Ceremony is organised with a lot of care. Under the direction of Mrs. Ingeborg Knopf-Bousa, there is a successful mixture of traditional procedure, new ideas and thoughtful choreography for the opening committee to the sounds of the TU orchestra.
